Bring your assistant to the manuscript, on your terms.
Aevon runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP apps can read your projects directly instead of whatever you paste into a chat. With a read and write token they can add ideas, notes and new world entries. They never edit or delete your writing.
Server URL: https://aevon.ink/api/mcp. Tokens are made in Settings, Connections.

What MCP is, briefly.
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an assistant call tools and read data exposed by a server. Connect an MCP app to Aevon and the assistant can look things up in your project the way you would: open a chapter, read a character's entry, search for a name.
Aevon's server uses the Streamable HTTP transport with a personal access token. Settings in Aevon has copy-ready setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code, plus generic settings for other apps. Apps that only start local servers can use the mcp-remote bridge.
Good jobs for a connected assistant.
The most useful work is the tedious kind: answering continuity questions across a long draft, finding every mention of an object, checking names and dates against the world bible, or turning finished chapters into an outline for a synopsis.
The writing stays yours. The server has no tool that changes or deletes a chapter, so the most an assistant can do is suggest, and add an idea or a note for you to read later.
- Continuity checks across chapters and books
- Finding where a character, place or object last appeared
- Building a series bible from the notes you already have
- Capturing ideas and chapter notes from a brainstorm
Things to ask
In your assistant
- Where was the lantern last mentioned before chapter 12?
- List every chapter Tomas appears in.
- Does the lore entry for the harbor fire match what chapter 9 says?
- Add an idea: the ferryman kept the forged log.
Safe by default.
Connecting a tool to your manuscript should be a decision you can undo. Access tokens are built around that.
- One token per app
- Name each token after the app or device it is for, so you can cut off one app without touching the others.
- Read only, or read and write
- Read only tokens read chapters, notes, world entries and ideas. Read and write tokens can also add ideas, world entries and notes, never edit or delete your existing writing.
- All projects, or some
- Let a token open every project you can open, or pick only the projects it may see.
- Your role still applies
- A token acts as you. In projects where you are a viewer it can only read, and where the owner reviews changes the assistant is told to make that change in Aevon instead.
- Expiry and revoking
- Tokens expire after 30 days, 90 days or a year, or never. Revoke one and every app using it loses access right away.
- Shown once
- Aevon shows a new token only once and stores just a hash of it. Each token also has a request rate limit.
What the assistant can call.
These are the tools Aevon's server offers. Read only tokens get the reading tools; read and write tokens add the tools that create ideas, notes and world entries. The Test connection button in Settings lists exactly what a token can use.

A careful first session
Export a backup
Export the project to Word, PDF or Markdown. The server cannot change your chapters, but a backup is good practice before any new tool.
Start read only
Create a read only token for one project and ask continuity and search questions first.
Read your provider's terms
What the assistant reads is handled under that assistant provider's terms. Check them, and any publishing contract that mentions such tools.
Revoke what you don't use
When you stop using an app, revoke its token in Settings, Connections.
Questions about MCP server
Which apps can connect to Aevon?
Apps that support remote MCP servers over HTTP. Aevon's settings include setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code, and generic settings for others. Custom connectors on claude.ai sign in with OAuth, which Aevon does not offer yet.
Can a connected assistant edit or delete my manuscript?
No. The server has no tool that edits or deletes existing writing. With a read and write token an assistant can add ideas, world entries, chapter notes and project notes, and only in projects where you are an owner or editor.
Can I limit a token to one project?
Yes. When you create a token, choose Only some projects and pick the ones it may open.
What happens if a token leaks?
Revoke it in Settings, Connections. Apps using it lose access immediately. Then create a new token for the app.
Do I need MCP to write in Aevon?
No. MCP is optional. Everything in Aevon works without connecting any assistant.
